One Less Gun: One Under Arrest and Firearm Recovered in Dorchester
One Less Gun: At about 11:07 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 8 Darlington Street in Dorchester. While on patrol on the area of the aforementioned location, officers observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Millet Street in Dorchester. Due to the infraction, officers conducted a traffic stop in front of 8 Darlington Street. Officers spoke to the operator, who was not in possession of his driver’s license. While speaking with the operator, officers observed a gun holster on the floor beside the operator’s foot and subsequently removed the operator from the vehicle. Officers then located a Ruger 9mm semi-automatic firearm loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, inside of the motor vehicle. The operator was taken into custody.
Officers arrested Ernest Monell, 28-years-old, of Lakeville. Monell is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, 2nd and Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense.
